O encontro das duas células dá-se no momento em que um espermatozóide penetra no óvulo, célula de forma esférica e muito mais volumosa do que qualquer célula espermática. Sendo assim fecundado, o óvulo transforma-se em ovo ou zigoto. Se, quando nascemos, somos um organismo composto por milhares de milhões de células, no início, no momento da concepção, somos uma célula singular, um óvulo fertilizado.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;O núcleo de cada célula humana contém 46 cromossomas, que são estruturas de forma entrelaçada, distribuídas em 23 pares. Um membro de cada par vem de cada um dos progenitores. O que são os cromossomas? São porções ou sequências de ADN que contêm vários genes. O ADN é uma complexa molécula que contém informação genética. Cada cromossoma contém milhares de pequenos segmentos de ADN, que são precisamente os genes. Estes são as unidades funcionais da hereditariedade e fornecem instruções às células para se reproduzirem mediante a divisão celular – mitose -, fabricando também as proteínas que sustentam a vida do organismo. Está inscrito nos nossos genes que vamos ter um cérebro, pulmões, coração, etc. Várias das características físicas que apresentamos resultaram da interacção dos genes com o ambiente intracelular , com o que se passa no interior do organismo e com o que acontece no meio em que o organismo vive.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;Os cromossomas estão organizados em pares, tendo cada célula humana normal 23 pares. Destes 46 cromossomas, 23 são contributo do progenitor masculino e 23 do progenitor feminino. Os primeiros 22 pares de cromossomas transportam o mesmo tipo de informação genética. Os componentes do par número 23 – os cromossomas sexuais, porque determinam o sexo – diferem. Na mulher esse par é constituído por dois cromossomas X; no homem, é formado por um cromossoma X e por um Y (bem mais pequeno que o cromossoma X). quando o óvulo é fecundado por um espermatozóide que contém um cromossoma do tipo X, nascerá uma rapariga.; se o cromossoma for do tipo Y, nascerá um rapaz.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;Genótipo e Fenótipo&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;No momento da concepção, é estabelecida a herança genética de um novo indivíduo. O zigoto contém todas as instruções que determinam uma aparência física única e a predisposição para certas características pessoais e capacidades físicas e mentais. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;Esta herança genética só poderá expressar-se – ser efectivamente recebida e adquirida – num contexto ambiental. É a interacção de factores genéticos e ambientais (educativos, culturais, socioeconómicos) que vai definir a nossa aparência e o nosso comportamento.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;Hereditariedade e meio, factores genéticos e ambientais, não são realidades independentes e autónomas. Os conceitos de genótipo e de fenótipo revelam que a transmissão hereditária é um processo interactivo. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;O termo genótipo designa o potencial genético de um indivíduo, isto é, a predisposição genética para exprimir determinados traços morfológicos, psicológicos e comportamentais.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;O fenótipo é o conjunto de características observáveis que um organismo apresenta como resultado da interacção entre o património genético e as influências ambientais.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;No genótipo, está contido o conjunto de informações genéticas que indicam a predisposição (ou potencialidade) para vir a ter um dado fenótipo. Este não é um simples resultado da transmissão hereditária porque pode ser alterado em virtude do papel do meio (das nossas experiências e da nossa educação). &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;Genes dominantes e genes recessivos&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;No nosso genótipo estão contidas, sob uma forma potencial, diversas características ou traços. Consideremos uma característica: a cor dos olhos.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;Cada par dos 46 cromossomas que herdamos transporta um gene de cada um dos progenitores para uma mesma característica. O que acontece quando a informação genética transmitida pelos progenitores é conflituosa, ou seja, o que acontece quando o gene (para a característica que é a cor dos olhos) recebido do pai tem a forma codificada «olhos castanhos» e o gene da mãe diz «olhos azuis»?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;A resposta consistirá em saber qual é o gene dominante. É este que influenciará a cor dos olhos que realmente iremos apresentar. No caso da cor dos olhos, o gene para «olhos castanhos» é tipicamente dominante em relação ao gene para «olhos azuis». Este é considerado o gene recessivo. Se ambos os genes do par forem dominantes, o resultado é simples. Se um for dominante e o outro recessivo, o fenótipo exprimirá a característica dominante – do gene dominante. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;Em que condições exprimirá o nosso fenótipo características não dominantes? Quando cada gene do par for um gene recessivo – um gene cujas instruções não são expressas no caso de estar combinado com um gene dominante. Por outras palavras, um gene recessivo somente se exprime quando combinado com outro gene recessivo. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;Exemplifiquemos: &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;Joana recebe do pai um gene para «olhos castanhos» e da mãe um gene para «olhos castanhos». Sendo ambos genes dominantes, é óbvio que Joana terá olhos castanhos.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;João recebe do pai um gene para «olhos castanhos» e da mãe um gene para «olhos azuis». Neste caso a característica que quanto à cor dos olhos João irá apresentar é controlada pelo gene dominante (o gene para «olhos castanhos»). João terá olhos castanhos. Será esse o seu fenótipo quanto à cor dos olhos. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;Contudo, isto não quer dizer que o gene dominante anule ou faça desaparecer o gene recessivo. Com efeito, embora João tenha olhos castanhos, o gene para «olhos azuis» (gene recessivo) continua a fazer parte do seu genótipo e um filho doo João pode vir a ter olhos azuis, no caso da mãe possuir também o gene recessivo para «olhos azuis» um gene recessivo revelará uma característica ou traço na condição de o mesmo gene recessivo ter sido herdado de ambos os progenitores e de não haver nenhum gene  dominante dando instruções em sentido contrário. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;&lt;b&gt;Hereditariedade específica e individual&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;No património genético de cada um de nós estão contidos elementos específicos e elementos individuais. Os elementos específicos são as potencialidades que partilhamos com os indivíduos da espécie a que pertencemos: a capacidade de ler, de falar, de escrever, uma determinada morfologia, etc. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;Os elementos individuais são as potencialidades, predisposições e tendências que nos identificam, distinguindo-nos de todo e qualquer outro indivíduo da nossa espécie: aspecto físico, características da personalidade, etc.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;Assim, a hereditariedade específica designa o conjunto de agentes genéticos responsáveis pela transmissão de características que integrarão certos indivíduos numa espécie, distinguindo-os dos indivíduos de outras espécies.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: x-large;"&gt;A hereditariedade individual designa o conjunto de agentes genéticos responsáveis pela transmissão de potencialidades que nos tornarão únicos, ou seja, diferentes de todos os outros
